The home of Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious, all franchises created by James Wan, has a new name: his merged horror company with Jason Blum is now Blumhouse Atomic.
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster will keep operating as distinct production labels under the new umbrella, each with its own creative team making film and TV projects, as Variety reported. The two companies merged in 2024, so this is a rebrand of the combined company.
Saw, an iconic horror series in its own right, is going back to Wan with a new chapter on the way. Blum called it a perfect example of what the merger can do. The Hollywood Reporter adds that Wan is producing, and that the company has bought back into the franchise, which sits with Lionsgate.
Blum also said "no filmmaker has created more horror franchises than James Wan." Wan also gave us Malignant, one of my horror favourites, so whatever he cooks up next under the new banner has my attention.
The numbers behind Blumhouse Atomic
According to Variety, the combined banners have taken more than $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office since the merger, on production budgets totalling under $330 million. In 2026 alone the company made $1.3 billion, driven by Obsession and Backrooms (the latter at around $400 million worldwide).
Wan says the new name is also about finding fresh talent. He name-checked Kane Parsons, Curry Barker, Josh Giuliano and Dylan Clark, and said the aim is to give filmmakers room to make something distinctive.
Sam Zimmerman was appointed senior vice president of development and acquisitions this year, tasked with a slate of genre features budgeted under $5 million. The company has also signed a first-look deal with Divide/Conquer.
Blumhouse Atomic's upcoming film slate
Variety puts the following on the company's 2027 slate, and The Hollywood Reporter lists the same titles as coming up:
- River
- The Revenge of La Llorona
- The Exorcist: Martyrs
- Anything But Ghosts
- Paranormal Activity
- Molepeople
- Blair Witch
- Sleepover
- Seasons
Blum said the company sees more chances to take these stories beyond cinemas and into television, games and live experiences. Neither report gives details on any of those yet.
