Pop Culture Pulse (popculturepulse.co.uk) is run by Nathanael Roman in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what personal data the site collects when you visit, why, and the choices you have. "Personal data" means any information that can identify you.

For UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), Nathanael Roman is the data controller. You can contact me about anything in this policy at hello@popculturepulse.co.uk.

What I collect and why

When you simply read the site

Like every website, the server that hosts Pop Culture Pulse records basic technical details when you visit: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. The hosting provider keeps these logs for security and to keep the site running. The legal basis is legitimate interests (keeping the site secure and working).

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which articles people read. It only runs after you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner, and IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

When you contact me

If you email me, I use your name, email address and message only to reply. The legal basis is legitimate interests (answering your message). I keep these emails for up to two years unless you ask me to delete them sooner.

Comments and accounts

If comments or writer accounts are switched on in future, this policy will be updated before they go live to explain what's collected.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. Pop Culture Pulse uses:

  • Your cookie choice: a small setting saved in your browser's local storage (pcp-consent) so the banner doesn't ask again. It's strictly necessary, so it doesn't need consent, and it never leaves your device.
  • Google Analytics cookies, set only after you click Accept: _ga (tells visits apart) and _ga_4XT0D5MJ6M (keeps the visit count for this site). Both last up to two years. If you choose Reject, or change your mind later in Cookie settings, they're not set, or they're deleted.

The site doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

Who your data is shared with

Your data is never sold. It's only shared with the services needed to run the site:

  • Hostinger, the web hosting provider, which stores the site and its server logs
  • Google, which provides Google Analytics, only if you've accepted analytics cookies
  • Hostinger and Google (Gmail), which deliver and store email, if you contact me

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.

Links and embedded content

Articles link to the sources they're based on, such as publishers' websites and official blogs. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and I'm not responsible for how they use your data.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you
  • Ask me to correct or delete it
  • Object to, or ask me to restrict, how I use it
  • Withdraw your consent at any time, where I rely on consent
  • Ask for your data in a portable format

To use any of these rights, email hello@popculturepulse.co.uk. I'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

Pop Culture Pulse is written for a general audience and doesn't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
