DC Studios is reportedly developing a John Constantine movie, with Francis Galluppi, the filmmaker behind Evil Dead Wrath, writing it. That's excellent news in my book. Constantine is a cracking character, and he's turned up in plenty of the great DC comics I've read over the years.

The story is an exclusive from Deadline, which cites unnamed sources. Reps for DC declined to comment, so nothing is officially confirmed yet.

What's known about the John Constantine movie

Deadline says the project is in very early development, with no other attachments so far. IGN adds that it isn't known whether Galluppi will direct as well as write, and that there are no casting details.

If you're new to the character, John Constantine is a working-class British occult detective, created by writer Alan Moore with artists Steve Bissette and John Totleben. I know him best from Justice League Dark in the New 52 era, where he worked alongside Zatanna and the team, and I loved him in it. Plenty of fans swear by Hellblazer, his long-running solo series. I haven't read it yet, but this news has bumped it right up my reading list.

Where does that leave Keanu Reeves and Constantine 2?

Keanu Reeves played the character in the 2005 film Constantine, and a sequel has been talked about for years. IGN reports that in late 2025 Reeves told Fandango a new draft of the sequel script had been finished and would be presented to DC Studios. There haven't been any updates since.

IGN says it isn't known whether Galluppi's script is meant as a sequel to the Reeves film or a completely new take on the character. Empire also points out that Constantine has appeared in a TV series led by Matt Ryan and in assorted animated projects.

Who is Francis Galluppi?

Galluppi made his name with his well-received debut feature, The Last Stop in Yuma County. In 2024 he developed the story for Evil Dead Wrath and pitched it to Sam Raimi's team.

Evil Dead Wrath is the seventh film in the Evil Dead series and a prequel to 1981's The Evil Dead. It's scheduled for cinemas on 7 April 2028, and Empire says Deadline notes that Galluppi is still fully focused on that film for now.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this one as it develops. Would you rather see Keanu Reeves back in the trench coat, or a brand-new Constantine for the DCU?
