LEGO has unveiled a Godzilla set, and it's a record-breaker: 5,363 pieces, 70cm tall and currently due on 27 November.

As SlashFilm reported, it's the first official Godzilla building brick set, based on the version of the monster from Legendary's Monsterverse films. CBR adds that it's the largest LEGO Ideas set ever made.

LEGO Ideas Godzilla: the key details

  • 5,363 pieces
  • 27.5 inches (70cm) tall, including the heat ray blast
  • Currently slated for 27 November on the LEGO website (SlashFilm calls it a Black Friday launch)
  • £349.99 in the UK, as Brick Fanatics reported (around $450 in the US, per Gizmodo)

SlashFilm reports it's the biggest creature LEGO has ever designed, and the designers weren't sure they could even reach 50cm. Minifigures barely reach its ankles, and that sheer size, along with the iconic roaring pose, is what makes it look so awesome: a Godzilla this big feels exactly right.

The model is partially articulated, with glowing spines down its back and a tail ready to whip around. The blue heat ray can come off, leaving Godzilla's tongue in its place so he can simply roar at the sky.

Who designed it

The set comes from the LEGO Ideas programme, where fans submit designs and the community votes on them. Fan designer Matthew Esposito's build hit the 10,000 votes it needed after more than two years, according to CBR.

LEGO model designers Jim Clayton and Markus Rollbühler worked on the final model with him, with Jordan Scott as creative design lead. CBR quotes Esposito: "Building LEGO Godzilla was a real passion project."

More Godzilla on the way

The timing's neat. Godzilla x Kong: Supernova arrives in cinemas on 26 March 2027, directed by Grant Sputore, with the duo facing SpaceGodzilla.

If you can't wait that long, Toho's Godzilla Minus Zero, the follow-up to Godzilla Minus One, is already on UK IMAX screens from 3 November, with the wider UK cinema release from Friday 6 November, as Anime News Network reported. Sometimes all you want is giant monsters slugging it out on a huge screen, and that's always been the fun of these films for me.

Is this your Black Friday splurge, or is the price a step too far?
